There is nothing so yummy as a juicy burger at a picnic. Freshly grilled patties sandwiched between sweet brioche buns and layered with condiments such as tomatoes, lettuce, and onion is truly satisfying. This lamb burger is inspired both by my Indian heritage and my American experience. It is an American-Inspired recipe because I have borrowed main content for the dish from American burgers with multi-colored beans and given them an Indian twist. This is a relatively healthy burger that is grilled or baked and made with protein-rich ingredients such as almonds and beans. I love eating anything that is bread-based such as pizzas, burgers, and sandwiches. Simple foods that make you crave for more. I like making my own burgers because I know what goes into them and how I make them.
Sometimes, some recipes just come together in my head, especially, since I have been experimenting with food for a long time. I subconsciously mix and match ingredients, recipes, and even methods of making them. I have eaten the bean burgers at various places here in the U.S during my travels across the country, and I wanted to make lamb and bean burger in one patty. While the original idea came from the vegetable cutlets that are served with Indian tea, I drew inspiration from various bean burgers, compounded with my guilty pleasure of loving breads such as pizzas, burgers, paratas, and sandwiches. Thus, began the experimentation to get the perfect lunch burger that my kids would willingly consume, while also making it healthy.
I have chosen to use black and white beans with ground almonds combined with minced lamb, that is sandwiched between a brioche bun, and accompanied by tomato slices, onion rings, lettuce, and cucumber slices that are drizzled with a homemade mint sauce.
Instructions:
How to make the patties:
- Wash and drain the lamb. Add minced onion, salt, pepper, minced green chilis, almond powder, minced ginger, and garlic.
- Cook the soaked black and white beans and grind them without water. Add the beans to the lamb and squeeze in the lemon juice.

3. Mix all the ingredients well into the lamb and let it rest for an hour.

4. Make balls and flatten them to make patties.

5. Drizzle olive oil and grill for 60 minutes at 3200F.

7. Flip the burgers every 15 minutes.

How to make the Mint Drizzle:
Blend a bunch of mint leaves with water, salt, and extra virgin olive oil to make a drizzle. You can add a few cashews to thicken it.
How to assemble the burgers:
- Toast the brioche buns and butter them.
- Place a patty on top and then top with onion, tomato, and cucumber slice and a lettuce leaf.
- Drizzle the mint sauce on top and place the other half of the bun on top.

Notes
- You can substitute dried beans with canned beans.
- Whole wheat buns can be substituted for the brioche buns.
- Ground chicken can be used in lieu of ground lamb.
- Tomato ketchup and mustard may be added (or substituted for the mint sauce), although they are not required as the lamb patties are quite flavorful.
- Drain the lamb until there is no more water dripping. There is no need to squeeze out all the water.
- Can minced lamb burgers be undercooked? Minced lamb burgers should be well done and not served undercooked.
- Are lamb burgers healthy? Lamb is packed with iron, zinc and omega 2 fatty acids; grilling the minced lamb melts the remaining fat. Like any red meat, lamb should be consumed in moderation.
